My search to identify my next boat is leading me towards a Beneteau 343 with a lift keel. The lifting keel is important to me, but I would like to here from owners who have one on how practical it is to use - ie, how much effort does it take to raise and lower, how long does it take. I anticipate using it fairly often to extend the entry / exit window from a marina via a lock. Also - if you happen to hit the putty with it, does it retract and can you simply wind down again? Also, how safe is it to dry out occasionally? Do the twin rudders give you a stable "tripod" and does this put excessive strain on the rudders, keel stub, hull? Any responses greatly appreciated. Steve.
